Hi all

By now you many of you have probably heard about the upcoming silver-bordered set Unsanctioned, first announced back in October last year. It is scheduled to release on February 29th 2020, the leap year day. This close to the release date, there’s a fair bit of information on the set out there to peruse.

At this point, the cards in Unsanctioned can all be seen on the Magic website here. The website Scryfall have also added the Unsanctioned cards to their card search. Cracked have published an interview with Mark Rosewater that provides a little background information on the set.

Although marketed as a preconstructed experience, Unsanctioned seems more to be focused on reprinting hard-to-find popular silver-bordered cards. The modular 30 card decks seem to have relatively little synergy, so I’d suggest looking mainly at the individual cards when deciding whether to buy it.

If you’re looking for a proper breakdown of the 16 new cards added in Unsanctioned, the Youtuber DementedKirby has released a set review on his channel, The Commander Tavern. The video is mostly made with Cube in mind, but also covers playing with these cards in Commander. DementedKirby has also made a number of Commander deck techs using the Unsanctioned legendary creatures, like Acornelia, Fashionable Filcher. Bear in mind that these videos are made with general silver-bordered Commander in mind, not UnCommander, so not everything will be functional in this variant.

As for UnCommander itself, we will be adding card entries for the new cards from Unsanctioned shortly after they are officially released. This is because we want to see the official Gatherer rulings when deciding how to handle the cards.

See you in a couple of weeks when the set is Un-leashed!
