Hi all
We’ve made the decision to move commemorative cards that have official printings from the UnOrthodox supplement to UnCommander proper. There have been a number of Magic commemorative cards printed, namely the Heroes of the Realm cards that were created as awards for teams within Wizards of the Coast. The other officially printed commemorative cards are 1996 World Champion and Shichifukujin Dragon. These two share the world record for the rarest trading card, only 1 of each exists.
To be included in UnCommander, generally a card needs to have been in an official printing. Otherwise, it will only be included in the UnOrthodox supplement. Commemorative cards were previously only part of the UnOrthodox supplement because they were only made in very limited numbers for specific individuals. However, some of these, like the Heroes of the Realm, have still been officially printed as cards by Wizards of the Coast. Sheldon Menery, the godfather of the Commander format and member of the EDH Rules Committee, is in favor of allowing commemorative cards in Commander by the people who they were designed for. As such, even though a very limited number are available, we are including them in UnCommander generally, both UnCommander Core and UnCommander UnOrthodox.
One thing to bear in mind is that some of these cards can be quite strong, many of them also playable as commanders. This may not make them suitable for all playgroups. As with other potentially problematic cards, they have been marked “use with caution” on their traffic light rating label.
Note that the commemorative cards without official printings are staying in the UnOrthodox supplement. This includes stickers applied to cards and cards not made from official Magic cardstock. From what we can find online, Robot Chicken seems to be a sticker, so that card doesn’t move to general UnCommander. If you’ve have any further information on commemorative cards, feel free to get in touch with us via email at info@edhsilver.com or on our Discord server.
Happy brewing
