Hi all.
It’s been a while and a half. The two of us at EDHsilver have sadly come to the conclusion that this project has run its course for reasons that we will outline below. This has been a fun project that served a purpose for all involved and we plan to maintain the website for posterity for the forseeable future, so anyone who wishes to still refer back to it. We will continue running the Discord server too, although we will not be much active on it ourselves. However, in light of recent developments of Magic and WotC’s approach to the game, we no longer feel able to continue the project and give it the attention it needs.
For about a year now, we have been talking on the Discord server about making a major change to the website. As well as changes to how cards were categorised on the website, it was to add new cards from Unfinity and other recent products. However, even after the set’s delay and release in October 2022, there was radio silence from us. We apologise for not keeping everyone in the loop. Our waning enthusiasm was no excuse.
When we released the website in 2019, there was a well-established methodology to WotC’s approach, codifying and separating the worlds of black and silver-bordered cards and mechanics. As it has grown looser and looser since, the need for our additional systems in order to use silver-bordered cards has grown less neccessary.
Silver bordered un-sets were always a ‘R&D fever dream’ where ideas deemed too crazy for normal Magic were tested. Some of these even ended up making their way into future black-bordered sets. But now that dynamic has changed, each black-bordered product tries to push the envelope more than those before, and silver-bordered sets have struggled to keep up. Even the silver border itself is obselete, now that the acorn stamp has replaced it in Unfinity. Our initial guiding philosophy (and name) no longer seems appropriate or relevant.
As a result we are discontinuing support for UnCommander and EDHsilver. We’d like to thank anyone and everyone who expressed interest in the format or took part in our community and wish you all the best in your future crazy games of Commander. Without us, WotC seem to have enough cards to keep even the wackiest players indefinitely entertained.
Have fun out there and all the best from Hamster and Shad
