Mage Spawn Lich’s ability also applies to how other types of colored mana symbols in a spell’s mana and additional costs are paid, such as hybrid, phyrexian and half mana symbols. Hybrid and phyrexian mana symbols are treated as though they are generic mana symbols costing one generic mana {1} each. Half mana symbols are treated as costing half a generic mana each {½}. This will not change the spell’s converted mana cost, even in the case of hybrid mana symbols with a generic mana half such as {2/G}.

Colorless mana symbols are unaffected by Mage Spawn Lich’s ability, as they are not colored mana costs. You must still pay these with colorless mana.

Mage Spawn Lich
{1}{B}{B}
Creature — Wizard
Controller of Mage Spawn Lich may treat colored mana requirements of spells he plays as colorless mana.
1/3

“Death borne in him unequaled magic.”

It’s unclear whether “colorless mana” in the original text refers to generic mana, or specifically colorless mana as a requirement. At the time this card was designed, numeric mana symbols ({1}) were used for both generic mana costs and colorless mana. This was made a long time before colorless mana costs were given a symbol ({C}) in Oath of the Gatewatch in 2016. As such, the intent is likely to be that mana costs should be treated as generic rather than colorless.
