You have the choice of whether to start the game with Rift in your hand after commanders are put into the command zone.

In a game that uses sideboards and/or conspiracies, the choice of whether to start the game with Rift in your hand comes after sideboards are set aside, commanders are put into the command zone, and conspiracy cards are put into the command zone from sideboards.
