Tornellan Protector’s activated ability prevents that much damage each time that permanent would be dealt damage this turn, not just once.

The only time you are instructed to roll a die in Tornellan Protector’s activated ability is when it resolves. This result is used with any instance of damage to that permanent until the effect ends.
